A drawing of interned British Indian soldiers with turbans and beards peeling potatoes in Townley Hall, The Hague.

During the war, over 1,500 members of the First Royal Naval ended up on Dutch territory and, in accordance with international law, they were disarmed and detained by the Dutch government. This drawing shows evidence of the presence of colonial British Indian soldiers among these British POWs in the Netherlands.
