Letter to the captain

Letter purportedly by two Christian prisoners of war interned in the Halfmoon camp requesting permission to go to church on Christmas Day in 1917. This forms part of Otto Stiehl's photographic collection.

This is just one of few extant letters written by an inmate of the Halfmoon camp. Indian prisoners of war were kept separate in an area of the camp known as 'Inderlager'. By Christmas 1917, the majority of prisoners of war from the Halfmoon camp had been transferred to camps in occupied Romania designed for labour corps.
