English letter by Nellie Zerhusen
Letter written probably to Otto Stiehl, captain of the Halfmoon Camp in Wünsdorf. This forms part of Stiehl's photographic album and within it are complaints about English soldiers who claim to be Irish to receive better treatment from the Germans.
A key part of Germany's strategy to incite feelings of revolution amongst ethnic minorities in the multinational empires of her enemies was to instigate a revolution in Ireland. Irish prisoners of war received better treatment than their English comrades in order to convince them that they would prosper as German allies rather than remaining loyal soldiers to the British government.
